‘Vikings: The Immersive Experience’ Brings the Legend of Ragnar Lodbrok to London

Inside the myth, prophecy and power behind Ragnar Lodbrok, Queen Kraka and the rise of a legendary Viking dynasty

Opening on 12 March at Dock X in London, VIKINGS: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE is a revolutionary new immersive, educational and historical exhibition offering visitors an unprecedented deep dive into the lives of the Viking world’s most formidable family.

Designed to move beyond familiar pop culture portrayals, this large-scale production offers a richly detailed exploration of Viking life, mythology and family legacy, centred on King Ragnar Lodbrok, Queen Kraka (Aslaug), and their world-conquering sons – Ivar The Boneless, Bjorn Ironside, Hvitserk, and Sigurd Snake-in-the-eye.

Blending cutting-edge immersive technology with meticulous historical storytelling, the experience places visitors at the heart of the Viking world, presenting a nuanced and educational journey that appeals to history enthusiasts, families, school groups and fans of Norse mythology alike.

Discover the Hidden Power of Queen Kraka

While many Viking narratives focus on Ragnar Lodbrok’s raids across England and France, this immersive experience reframes the story through the wisdom and foresight of Queen Kraka, one of Norse mythology’s most compelling female figures.

A revered völva, or seeress, Kraka’s intelligence and prophetic insight shaped the destiny of her family. Visitors follow her extraordinary journey from her early life as the disguised peasant woman Kraka, to her role as Ragnar’s queen and the mother of warriors who would become known as the Scourge of Europe.

Step Inside the Viking World at Dock X

Located in the vast industrial space of Dock X in Canada Water, the exhibition unfolds across a series of elaborate environments designed to fully immerse visitors.

The Forest of Time

The journey begins with an opening cinematic sequence set in 793 AD, the year of the infamous Lindisfarne raid. From there, visitors enter the Forest of Time, a full-scale indoor woodland featuring towering trees, atmospheric lighting and detailed replica displays.

Interactive elements include:

  • Touchscreen tablets mapping Viking conquests

  • Replica artefacts and daily life displays

  • A talking portrait installation answering visitor questions

  • A Viking knot-tying station

  • A full audio-guided tour

The World Tree and Virtual Reality Storytelling

At the heart of the exhibition stands the glowing Tree of Light, inspired by Yggdrasil, the mythological World Tree connecting the realms of Norse cosmology. Through a specially designed virtual reality experience, visitors witness the first meeting between Kraka and Ragnar, bringing mythology and history together through immersive narrative design.

Junior-friendly VR options ensure younger visitors can engage with the story safely and memorably.

A 360-Degree Cinematic Viking Saga

Passing through the Mist of Time, a fog-filled portal room, guests arrive at the centrepiece: a 30-minute 360-degree video-mapped cinematic experience. High-resolution projections, an original musical score and environmental effects transform the space into a living saga.

A full-size Viking longship anchors the room, sometimes serving as seating, sometimes as a dramatic storytelling device, as the epic tale of love, prophecy, war and legacy unfolds.

Meet the Scourge of Europe: The Sons of Kraka.

During the video presentation, we get to meet the Sons of Kraka, who each fulfilled her prophecies and avenged their father. Guests will stand virtually alongside the formidable brothers as they assemble the Great Heathen Army and sail to the shores of England and beyond.

A New Standard for Immersive London Experiences

Inspired by renewed interest from the Vikings television series,VIKINGS: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE offers a deeper, more historically grounded perspective. It presents Viking society as complex, agriculturally rooted and culturally rich, rather than purely defined by warfare.

Tickets for VIKINGS: THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE start from £19 for children and £23 for adults, with concessions and VIP options available. The experience is suitable for all generations. For more information visit: vikings-immersive.co.uk/london/
