UK release date announced for Amat Escalante’s powerful thriller ‘LOST IN THE NIGHT’

Sovereign has announced that award-winning Mexican director Amat Escalante’s powerful new thriller, LOST IN THE NIGHT (Perdidos en la noche), starring Juan Daniel García Treviño (Narcos México) and Latin American influencer superstar Ester Expósito, will be released in UK cinemas on 24th November 2023.

The film will receive its UK premiere in the ‘Thrill‘ section at the 67th BFI London Film Festival, with Escalante attending as Jury President of the Official Competition at the festival.

Emiliano lives in a small mining town in Mexico. Motivated by a deep sense of justice, he searches for those responsible for the disappearance of his activist mother who was standing up for local jobs against an international mining company. Receiving no help from the police or judicial system, he finds a clue that leads him to the wealthy Aldama Family, where he meets a famous artist, his celebrity wife and their beautiful daughter. It’s not long before he has a job at their home and becomes determined to uncover the secrets beneath the surface.

The film is written by Amat Escalante, in collaboration with his brother Martín Escalante and Paulina Mendoza, and features a superb score by Stranger Things composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein.

Following Heli, for which Escalante won Best Director at Cannes in 2013, and The Untamed, which won him the Best Director prize at Venice in 2016, LOST IN THE NIGHT is a taut, engrossing thriller that blends traditional elements of Latin American cinema with astute social commentary on Mexican society and contemporary influencer culture.
