New musical ‘Operation Mincemeat’ announces West End transfer!

After sold-out development runs at the New Diorama Theatre in 2019 and Southwark Playhouse in 2020, 2021 & 2022, plus an extended run at Riverside Studios this summer, the acclaimed new musical Operation Mincemeat will now transfer to the Fortune Theatre in London’s West End next spring.

Operation Mincemeat will begin previews on 29th March 2023, followed by an 8-week run beginning on the 9th May 2023.

The announcement comes following the news that The Woman In Black will end its record-setting thirty-three year run at Fortune Theatre on 4th March 2023.

The year is 1943 and we’re losing the war. Luckily, we’re about to gamble all our futures on a stolen corpse. 

Singin’ in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train, Noel Coward meets Noel Fielding, Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that won us World War II. The question is, how did a well-dressed corpse wrong-foot Hitler?

Operation Mincemeat is written and composed by SpitLipDavid Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson and Zoe RobertsSpitLip were included in The Stage’s 25: Theatremakers to watch out for in 2022 and beyond list.

The production is directed by Rob Hastie, with choreography by Jenny Arnold, musical direction by Joe Bunker,  set and costume design by Ben Stones, lighting design by Mark Henderson, and sound design by Mike Walker. Orchestrator & Musical Supervisor Stephen Sidwell. Produced by Jon Thoday for Avalon.

The show was commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, co-commissioned by The Lowry, and supported by the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat with additional support from Avalon.

Operation Mincemeat is presented in the West End by Avalon in association with SpitLip.
