Full casting has been announced for the re-imagined new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s multi-award-winning musical, PASSION, starring Ruthie Henshall as Fosca, which will run at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester from 5th May to 5th June 2022.
Dean John-Wilson will play Giorgio, the man who finds himself at the heart of a passionate love affair, alongside Olivier Award-nominee Kelly Price as Clara.
The cast is completed by Adam Robert Lewis, Charlie Waddell, Danny Whitehead, Dalton Harris, Ray Shell, Steve Watts, and Tim Walton.
Directed by Sondheim specialist Michael Strassen, with movement direction by Sundeep Saini and musical direction by Yshani Perinpanayagam (LMTO), this encapsulating revival will reenergise the tale of love, sex and obsession in a new dynamic staging.
Based on Ettore Scola’s 1981 film Passion d’Amore, and set in 19th Century Italy, PASSION tells the tale of a young soldier, Giorgio, who is obsessively pursued by the relation of his superior officer, Fosca – a woman prone to severe melancholy and mania.
Exploring the consequences of intense passion and obsessive adoration, PASSION is a ravishing and thought-provoking look at the lengths people go to for desire.
