MUBI has today announced that it has acquired all UK and Ireland rights for Leos Carax’s anticipated new musical comedy-drama, Annette, which will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 3 September 2021.
Annette will open the 2021 Cannes Film Festival on 6 July 2021.
With a screenplay co-written by Ron Mael and Russell Mael of Sparks, alongside Carax, based on an original story, music and songs by the band, the film stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, alongside Simon Helberg and Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle in her acting debut.
Annette features songs written and produced by Sparks, with some additional lyrics by Leos Carax.
Set in contemporary Los Angeles, Annette stars Henry (Adam Driver) as a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor who falls in love with Ann (Marion Cotillard), a world-renowned opera singer. Under the spotlight, they form a passionate and glamorous couple. With the birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny, their lives are turned upside down.
Annette is produced by Charles Gilibert, p.g.a., Paul-Dominique Win Vacharasinthu and Adam Driver. Kinology is handling international sales.
