Original Theatre Company & York Theatre Royal announce first revival of Sarah Waters’ ‘The Night Watch’

The Original Theatre Company and York Theatre Royal have announced the first revival and UK tour of Hattie Naylor‘s acclaimed stage adaptation of Sarah Waters‘ best-selling novel, The Night Watch.

First performed at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre in 2016, this first revival of the play will open at Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne on 22 August 2019 and tour to venues across the UK until 23 November 2019.

Directed by Alastair Whatley and designed by David Woodhead, the tour will star Mara Allen, Louise Coulthard, Malcolm James, Lewis MackinnonPhoebe PryceFlorence Roberts, Sam Jenkins-Shaw, and Izabella Urbanowicz.


Set in London in the 1940s, we follow the lives and loves of people recovering from the chaos of war.

THE NIGHT WATCH is a tender, tragic and beautifully poignant portrait of four ordinary people caught up in the aftermath of an extraordinary time.


The Night Watch will feature lighting by Nic Farman, sound by Dominic Bilkey, casting by Ellie Collyer-Bristow CDG, music by Sophie Cotton and movement direction from Lucy Cullingford.
