Arcola Theatre announces the European première of Dael Orlandersmith’s ‘Until The Flood’

The Arcola Theatre has today announced the European première of Pulitzer Prize nominee Dael Orlandersmith‘s celebrated 2016 play, Until The Flood, which will be performed by Orlandersmith and directed by Neel Keller, associate Artistic Director at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.

Until The Flood will open at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh from 1 to 25 August 2019, before transferring to London’s Arcola Theatre from 4 to 28 September 2019.

The play will be the first to be presented by Arcola at the Edinburgh Festival.

On August 9, 2014 a white police officer shot and killed Michael Brown, an African American teenager in Ferguson, Missouri. Michael Brown’s shooting ignited weeks of social unrest, propelled by the activist movement known as Black Lives Matter, and prompted a controversial investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Dael Orlandersmith conducted interviews with dozens of people who were shaken by the shooting and its turbulent aftermath. From these intimate conversations, she has created eight unforgettable characters who embody a community struggling to come to terms with the personal damage caused by these complex events.

Until The Flood explores the dark forces of American history, race and politics that exploded in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri and sent shock waves across the nation.

Until The Flood will feature Set Design by Takeshi Kata, Costume Design by Kaye Voyce, Lighting Design by Mary Louise Geiger, Sound Design by Justin Ellington, and Video Design by Nicholas Hussong.
