‘Adriana Lecouvreur’ to screen live in cinemas as part of The Met: Live in HD

Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczała star in Francesco Cilea‘s tale of passion, jealousy and intrigue, Adriana Lecouvreur, which screens live in cinemas worldwide on Saturday 12 January 2019 (5:55pm GMT) as part of the Metropolitan Opera‘s 2018/19 The Met: Live in HD cinema season.

Anna Netrebko joins the ranks of Renata Tebaldi, Montserrat Caballé, and Renata Scotto, taking on the demanding title role for the very first time at the Met.

The principal cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and baritone Ambrogio Maestri.

Gianandrea Noseda conducts Sir David McVicar‘s acclaimed production which premiered at the Royal Opera House, London, back in 2017.

Composed in 1902, Cilea‘s masterpiece is inspired by the life and mysterious death of famed French actress Adrienne Lecouvreur and her lover, the legendary soldier Maurice of Saxony.

McVicar‘s staging recreates to exact detail a baroque theatre, similar to those in which the real Adrienne would have performed in the 18th-century.
