Park Circus has today announced that their new restorations of Some Like it Hot and The Naked City will receive their world premieres as part of the Venezia Classici section of the 75th International Venice Film Festival.
Regarded as one of the greatest comedy films of all time, Billy Wilder‘s classic Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, has been restored by Park Circus in collaboration with Metro Goldwyn Mayer and the Criterion Collection.
Working from the 35mm Original Picture Negative, 35mm Duplicate Picture Negative and 35mm Fine Grain Master, the film was scanned in 4K at Deluxe EFILM, Hollywood and Roundabout Entertainment. Digital image and audio restoration was undertaken by the Criterion Collection in New York. Colour grading, picture conforming, and additional image restoration was completed by Roundabout Entertainment, Santa Monica. The restoration was supervised by Grover Crisp on behalf of Park Circus.
The restored Some Like It Hot will be released in cinemas worldwide later in 2018.
On behalf of Master Licensing Inc., Park Circus will also present the restoration of Jules Dassin‘s film noir classic The Naked City, starring Don Taylor, Barry Fitzgerald and Howard Duff.
The Naked City was restored by Torsten Kaiser, TLEFilms FRPS – Film Restoration & Preservation Services, Germany.
It was funded by Master Licensing Inc and is presented in association with Brook Productions .
Filmed on location on the streets of New York City, the films sees Detective James Halloran (Taylor) and Lieutenant Dan Muldoon (Fitzgerald) attempt to piece together her murder when a former model is drowned in her bathtub.
