Second Stage production of Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song announces Broadway transfer

Following a critically acclaimed, sell-out Off-Broadway run, producer Richie Jackson has announced that the celebrated Second Stage production of Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song will now transfer to Broadway’s Hayes Theatre for a limited engagement from 9 October, 2018 (opening night set for 1 November).

The transfer will see Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song return to the same stage where the landmark original Broadway production, Torch Song Trilogy, first opened back in June 1982 (then known as the Little Theatre), starring Fierstein himself in a Tony Award-winning central performance.

Directed by Tony Award nominee Moisés Kaufman, the production will once again star Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie and Tony and Academy Award® winner Mercedes Ruehl.

General on-sale begins Friday, March 9 at 10:00AM.

Fiercely funny and heart-wrenching, Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song follows Arnold Beckoff’s (Mr. Urie) odyssey to find happiness in New York.

All he wants is a husband, a child, and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother (Ms. Ruehl) reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect.

Join Arnold on this all too human journey about the families we’re born into, the families we choose, and the battles to bring them all home.
