The Prince Charles Cinema and Park Circus have announced the return of Check the Gate, a season dedicated to screening films in 35mm film, which will run from 22 – 24 September, with not a digital projector in sight.
Highlights from the programme will include 20th anniversary screenings of Boogie Nights – screening alongside Paul Thomas Anderson’s short film Valentine – and Quentin Tarantino’s Blaxploitation homage Jackie Brown.
With fewer cinemas being able to screen from 35mm Check the Gate is an opportunity to redress this.
Co-CEO of Park Circus, Nick Varley said:
“Park Circus has been leading the way for many years in making classic films available in the digital. However, throughout, we have actively sought to keep the showing of celluloid alive and continue to maintain a distribution inventory of over 4,000 35mm and 70mm distribution prints. We are delighted to work with The Prince Charles Cinema and for this second edition of Check the Gate, they are our perfect partners to bring these brilliant 35mm prints back to an audience hungry to see film presented on film.”
