Second Run’s next DVD release will be STUFF AND DOUGH (Marfii și banii), the acclaimed debut feature from award-winning Romanian filmmaker Cristi Puiu on 30th May 2016.
The debut feature from Cristi Puiu (director of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, Aurora and the forthcoming Cannes-competitor Sieranevada) Stuff and Dough is an unnerving, verité-style thriller that reveals the lives of a group of young people living in a country still recovering from years of misrule and neglect.
Part crime thriller, part road movie, part naturalist drama – the conscious conflation of genres in this dryly funny, political, but deceptively simple chase movie quietly – and controversially – reveals the state of contemporary Romanian life.
“A throwback to American gear-grinders of the 1960s and ’70s like Two-Lane Blacktop or Duel. But though it is suspenseful, unnerving and agile in its techniques, it has more than speed and danger on its mind… The brilliance of Stuff and Dough is that it wraps this powerful, disturbing drama in an anecdote from ordinary life” The New York Times
Second Run present Stuff and Dough from a brand new HD restoration, and the DVD also includes Cristi Puiu’s award-winning 2004 short film Cigarettes and Coffee.
