During the Victorian era Egyptomania was a booming trade, with wealthy elites importing Egyptian mummies to London.

According to myth, the trouble began in the 1860’s when four young English travellers returned home with the ‘Unlucky Mummy’ after visiting the mummy pits of Deir el-Bahri in Egypt.

A rapid trail of disaster was said to have befallen those who had crossed paths with it. One traveller was accidentally shot and lost his arm, another suffered financial ruin, while others reportedly died in poverty or mysteriously disappeared.

And the curse continued as the mummy was passed from one owner to another, so too did the misfortune that followed it.
