COMO The Halkin Launches a Plant-Based Veganuary Afternoon Tea in London

A refined, wellness-led take on Afternoon Tea inspired by the COMO Shambhala Kitchen

London’s Afternoon Tea scene continues to evolve, and this winter COMO The Halkin introduces a thoughtfully crafted Plant-Based Veganuary Afternoon Tea, launching from 1 January 2026.

Designed as a lighter, more mindful interpretation of a British classic, the experience reflects a growing appetite for wellness-led dining without sacrificing indulgence.

Rather than adapting a traditional Afternoon Tea with dairy-free substitutes, Head Chef Melchor has created an entirely original menu inspired by the COMO Shambhala Kitchen.

The result is an Afternoon Tea that feels intentional, flavour-led and balanced, appealing not only to vegans but also to wellness-focused diners and Afternoon Tea regulars seeking something fresher and more refined.

A Wellness-Driven Approach to Vegan Afternoon Tea in London

As London’s vegan Afternoon Tea offerings continue to expand, COMO The Halkin’s plant-based menu stands apart for its focus on whole foods, natural sweetness and functional ingredients. Guided by the hotel’s COMO Shambhala wellness philosophy, every element is designed to nourish the body while delivering depth of flavour and visual elegance.

This approach reflects a broader shift towards mindful indulgence, positioning COMO The Halkin among the capital’s most considered destinations for plant-based Afternoon Tea.

Savoury Dishes Rooted in Whole Foods and Plant Nutrition

The savoury course champions vegetables, seeds and plant-based proteins, with each dish carefully composed to support digestion and sustained energy.

Guests begin with a roast beetroot and cumin soup, rich in antioxidants and naturally anti-inflammatory spices. This is followed by chia seed crispbread with cashew hummus and cauliflower salad, offering a satisfying combination of plant protein, fibre and healthy fats.

A courgette rösti layered with zucchini textures provides natural hydration and digestion-friendly qualities, while jicama rolls filled with marinated shiitake mushrooms and avocado, finished with a tamari and orange dressing, deliver umami depth alongside gut-supporting benefits.

The savoury selection is completed with a garden leaf and seed salad with ginger-miso dressing, bringing probiotics, minerals and gentle warming spice to the table.

Naturally Sweet Desserts Without Refined Sugars

Sweet dishes favour fruit-based sweetness and nutrient-dense ingredients over refined sugar, resulting in desserts that feel indulgent yet balanced.

Highlights include a coconut and chia pudding with rhubarb compote, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fibre, alongside a strawberry, vanilla and cashew tart that balances freshness with creaminess.

A cacao mousse with fresh raspberries and pistachio delivers antioxidants and healthy fats, while the experience concludes with a strawberry and pomegranate salad paired with hibiscus flower sorbet, known for its refreshing and antioxidant properties.

Completing the Afternoon Tea is a mango and passion fruit ‘cheesecake’ set on a banana and macadamia nut crust, indulgent yet light.

Curated Teas and COMO Shambhala Beverages

The Afternoon Tea is complemented by a considered drinks offering. Guests can enjoy COMO Shambhala Ginger Tea, a warming infusion of ginger, honey and lemon, traditionally valued for its digestive, anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting properties.

The tea menu includes a thoughtful selection of classic and herbal blends, from Black Tea to White Peony and Jasmine Silver Needle, alongside freshly pressed juices from the COMO Shambhala Kitchen.

A Boutique Hotel Setting in Belgravia

Located in the heart of leafy Belgravia, COMO The Halkin is a discreet boutique hotel just a short walk from Mayfair and Knightsbridge. With only 41 rooms and suites, the hotel blends timeless design with contemporary elegance and helped define London’s boutique hotel movement when it opened in 1991.

The Plant-Based Veganuary Afternoon Tea at COMO The Halkin is priced from £60 per person, with two hours’ booking notice required. Available from 1 January.
