Visionary creator Robert Kirkman has announced the long-awaited return of Capes, a beloved but long-out-of-print series set in the Invincible Universe. The news was revealed exclusively at Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC).
During his “Robert Kirkman LIVE at SDCC” panel, Kirkman confirmed that the series will return this November 19, 2025, in a fully remastered edition.
Created by Kirkman and Mark Englert, the original issues will feature updated art, refreshed dialogue, and enhancements from the original creative team. These re-releases will be published monthly by Skybound and Image Comics.
Capes Returns After More Than 20 Years
Capes has not seen a reprint since its original run over two decades ago. Now, longtime fans and new readers can rediscover this unique part of the Invincible Universe. Each issue complements the universe depicted in the hit Prime Video series and the ongoing Skybound comics.
This revival brings more than nostalgia—it marks the beginning of a broader expansion of Kirkman’s superhero world.
New Capes Stories Begin in 2026
Following the remastered editions, Capes will continue with all-new stories starting in 2026. Writer Benito Cereno (known for Invincible Presents: Atom Eve) joins Englert to take the series beyond its original scope.
Beginning in 2026 with Issue #7, this revival of promises to take fans even deeper into unexplored areas of the Invincible Universe.

“With so much excitement surrounding all things Invincible, I knew we had to get Capes back in print,” said Kirkman. “Revisiting these characters—Bolt, Kid Thor, Knockout—was a blast. Fans loved seeing them in Invincible Season 3, and now, we’re giving them even more.”
