The Pokémon Company has announced the upcoming launch of the Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app. The highly anticipated update will be released globally on 30 July 2025.
This major expansion showcases iconic Johto region Pokémon, such as Lugia, Ho-Oh, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, while also introducing a refreshed trading system that enhances interaction and accessibility.
Wisdom of Sea and Sky Launches Worldwide on 30 July 2025
The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion introduces a new digital card set inspired by the Johto region, originally explored in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. This marks an exciting return for long-time fans and a fresh challenge for new players.
Notably, Trainers can now collect and battle with Legendary Pokémon Lugia and Ho-Oh, brought to life with vivid, animated artwork. Furthermore, this expansion introduces a groundbreaking feature—attacks that require no Energy cards. As a result, players can now create faster-paced strategies and adapt their decks more creatively.
Additionally, the official Pokémon YouTube channel has released a new trailer that previews the set’s design, art style, and gameplay innovations.
Trading System Upgrades Arrive with New Features
Alongside the expansion, the Pokémon TCG Pocket app will receive a substantial update to its trading system, launching on 30 July 2025 at 06:00 UTC. These changes aim to streamline the trading experience and offer players more control.
Firstly, a new wishlist feature will allow players to select up to 20 cards they want. Out of these, they can highlight three on their profile, helping potential trade partners quickly identify matches.
Secondly, the update will phase out trade tokens entirely. Going forward, players will no longer need tokens to initiate trades. Instead, shinedust will become the new standard currency for trading ♦♦♦, ♦♦♦♦, and ★ rarity cards. This change simplifies the process and encourages more active engagement.
Players can earn shinedust by completing in-game missions, unlocking achievements, or collecting duplicate cards. Moreover, any remaining trade tokens can be exchanged in the in-game shop for pack hourglasses or shinedust.
However, starting Wednesday, 30 July at 01:00 UTC, the game will disable card-for-token trades after the update is complete. Therefore, players should plan their trades in advance.
