Sky Cinema has released the official trailer for the upcoming Sky Original film, THE INDEPENDENT, a nail-biting tale of political skulduggery and the race to expose corruption at the highest level of US politics, which will be available on Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW from 24 February 2023.

Directed by Amy Rice from a screenplay by Evan Parter, the film stars Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, Luke Kirby, Stephen Lang, Ann Dowd, and John Cena.

THE INDEPENDENT is the story of a budding investigative journalist Eli (Turner-Smith) who uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the very foundations of Washington D.C.

It’s the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election campaign in US history. America is poised to elect either its first female president (Ann Dowd) or finally break the country’s two-party gridlock with its first viable independent candidate (John Cena). Reporting history as it’s made, an idealistic young journalist (Jodie Turner-Smith) gets an opportunity to work with her idol, veteran Washington political columnist Nick Booker (Brian Cox). Eli is pursuing a story about budget cuts and by following the money she and Booker uncover a financial conspiracy that places the fate of the election, the country, and democracy in their hands.

David Robbins, Lex Miron, Michael Arrieta and Marc Danon (Relativity Media), Blair Ward and Anders Erdén (Orogen Entertainment), Julia Stuart and Laura Grange (Sky) serve as executive producers, along with Lance Acord, Jackie Kelman Bisbee, Cody Ryder (Park Pictures), Brian O’Shea, Nat McCormick, Giovanna Trischitta (The Exchange), and Charles Stiefel (Needle’s Eye Productions).
