Artistic Director Rupert Goold has today announced his new season at the Almeida Theatre, which opens on Monday 10 December 2018 with director Joe Hill-Gibbins‘ new production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tragedy of King Richard the Second‘, starring Simon Russell Beale in the title role.

The Tragedy of King Richard the Second will also be broadcast to cinemas in the UK and internationally on Tuesday 15 January 2019, marking the Almeida‘s first collaboration with National Theatre Live.

The new season will also feature the world premiere of Shipwreck, a sinister and sensational new play by Anne Washburn, directed by Rupert Goold, and see Almeida Associate Director Rebecca Frecknall and Patsy Ferran reunite, following Summer and Smoke, for Chekhov’s Three Sisters, in a new version by Cordelia Lynn.

Rupert Goold will also direct the world premiere of The Hunt by David Farr, based on Thomas Vinterberg‘s critically-acclaimed Danish mystery thriller, Jagten, co-written by Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm, and starring Mads Mikkelsen.

Making her Almeida debut, director Tinuke Craig will bring the new season to a close with a new production of Maxim Gorky’s savagely funny play, Vassa, adapted by multi award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett.
