A pair of love-struck sharks at SEA LIFE Blackpool have been named after Love Island winners Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer.

Following the Love Island finale last night, the inseparable pair of black tip sharks – measuring nearly six feet in length and both around 20 years old, who’ve been together for 15 years – have been named after the celebrity couple.

Matthew Titherington, general manager at SEA LIFE Blackpool, explains:

“The male spends most of the day chasing after the female, but she just pushes him away when she’s not in the mood. But, generally, they’re inseparable, swimming around happily side by side.  Like the rest of the country, team members have been gripped by Love Island and the ups and downs of Jack and Dani’s relationship. Once the winners were announced, they asked if we could name a pair of our black tip sharks, who’ve been together for about 15 years, after the couple.  We’re delighted they’ve won.”

The shark pair are part of SEA LIFE Blackpool‘s ‘breed, rescue, protect’ campaign to conserve oceans and marine life, as well as to raise awareness of these remarkable and beautiful creatures.

The aquarium works closely with its charity partner, the Sea Life Trust, to develop and support marine conservation projects worldwide.
