Following a huge refurbishment earlier this year, YTL Hotels’ elegant five-star Gower Street property, The Academy Hotel, has reveal details of its brand new Alchemy Bar and Library spaces, paying homage to its prime location in a key literary and cultural pocket of the capital, close to the heart of London’s West End.
The Academy Hotel now offers a peaceful and sophisticated space dedicated to the writings and works of The Bloomsbury Set, the famous group of individuals who once lived and worked in the streets surrounding the property.
Having recently re-opened as a 50-bedroom boutique hotel (made up of five Georgian houses), the Bloomsbury location, and The Bloomsbury Set – the influential group of writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists that included Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes and E.M. Forster – have been key inspirations behind the multi-million-pound reconstruction of the property.
The book-filled Alchemy Bar and the Library are the primary focus of the hotel’s homage to The Bloomsbury Set, with hotel guests able to enjoy the intimate and beautifully decorated spaces, and immerse themselves in the lives of the artists and authors whose works will line the walls.
The Academy Hotel is a classic example of YTL’s understated luxury, featuring stylish interiors that seamlessly blend modern and vintage pieces to create a contemporary take on townhouse living. Along with the Alchemy Bar and the Library, the property is also home to the Courtyard, where guests and visitors can indulge in a quintessentially English Afternoon Tea, and The Refectory, serving up a traditional English breakfast.
Following the multi-million-pound interior refurbishment overseen by Champalimaud Design, The Academy is also part of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection. Just moments away from the British Museum, fine-dining restaurants and designer shops, The Academy is perfectly positioned for those travelling for business or pleasure.
