BBC Two, Amazon Prime Video, Playground and Sonia Friedman Productions have released a first look image of Anthony Hopkins and Florence Pugh in director Richard Eyre’s forthcoming adaptation of Shakespeare’s great tragedy, King Lear, set to premiere on BBC Two this Spring.
Set in the fictional present, King Lear stars Hopkins as the eponymous ruler, presiding over a totalitarian military dictatorship in England. The cast also includes Emma Thompson as his eldest daughter Goneril, Emily Watson as his middle daughter Regan, and Florence Pugh as Cordelia, the youngest of Lear’s children, as well as Jim Broadbent as the Earl of Gloucester, Andrew Scott as his loyal son Edgar, John Macmillan as his illegitimate son Edmund, Jim Carter as the Earl of Kent, Christopher Eccleston as Oswald, Tobias Menzies as the Duke of Cornwall, Anthony Calf as the Duke of Albany and Karl Johnson as the Fool.
