Set to launch in a single phase in early 2020, London’s very first ‘Design District‘ will be an affordable, purpose-built new cultural destination specifically designed for the creative industries.
The brainchild of urban developers, Knight Dragon, the Design District will sit at the heart of London’s largest single regeneration project, Greenwich Peninsula, and will provide a permanent base for over 1,800 of London’s creatives in a range of architect-designed workspaces.
Responding to the need to #KeepLondonCreative, the Design District will consist of 16 custom-made buildings designed by eight emerging architectural practices who each responded to the brief to create low-cost, human-scaled workplaces for the district, as well as creating a cultural destination.
The one-hectare district will house open workshops and studios set around a series of courtyards and a public square, in a fully pedestrianised quarter.
Rents will start from £10 per square foot for workshop space, ensuring the district answers the call for more affordable workspaces in the capital for the creative industries – across design, art, technology, craft, music, food and digital.
It offers a permanent base for creative business to trade, interact and grow.
