Celluloid Man

A Film By Shivendra Singh Dungarpur

India | 2012 | Running Time: 150 minutes

Release Date: 14 April 2014

Celluloid Man is a tribute to P.K. Nair, a man whose childhood fascination with cinema led him to create the National Film Archive of India.

In a country where film preservation was once regarded as irrelevant, thanks to Nair’s passion the Archive has been able to preserve precious pieces of India’s film heritage that would otherwise be lost, and many Indian filmmakers now have a place in cinema history.

Comparable to the noted French film archivist Henri Langlois, Nair has influenced generations of filmmakers and introduced them to new worlds through the prism of cinema.

As Nair speaks we see the history of Indian cinema unfold.

This award-winning documentary is at once a portrait of a man in love with film, and a hymn to that obsession. The film features interviews with many Indian and international filmmakers touched personally by Nair’s passionate affair with cinema.
