A mushroom-fuelled trip into the dark heart of the English countryside, the new film from Ben Wheatley made history on Friday 5 July when it became the first British film ever to be released simultaneously in cinemas nationwide, on DVD, on free TV and on video-on-demand.
Fleeing from a battle in the English Civil War a small group of deserters are captured by an Alchemist and forced to aid him in his search for treasure he believes is buried in a nearby field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal the group quickly descends into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia; and, as it becomes clear that the treasure may be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.
A Field in England is among the first films to receive backing from the BFI Distribution Fund’s New Models strand, supporting innovative and ambitious release models that explore new ways to bring films to audiences. The film’s multi-platform release is the result of a partnership between Film4, Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD and Film4 channel, enabling viewers to decide how, where and when to view the film.
To celebrate the release of Ben Wheatley’s psychedelic period film, we have three Blu-ray copies of ‘A Field In England’ to give away, courtesy of our friends at Channel 4 DVD and MarketME Ltd.
Competition closes on Monday 15th July
